How APS Shows Employee Appreciation
It is well-known that employees are the heart of every company.
So how does APS celebrate its employees for all the hard work they do?
Every September, APS hosts a week of employee engagement activities for the American Payroll Association’s “National Payroll Week.” Taking place the first week of September, National Payroll Week celebrates America’s 150 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who make sure they get their wages!
Instead of dedicating a whole week to a national payroll holiday this year, the management team decided that showing appreciation for all the employees was much more appropriate!
Employee Appreciation Week September 19th-22nd 2016
Day one started off with some friendly competition amongst employees. The name of the game was “Minute to Win It: Chopstick Edition.” The staff was split into groups of 6. Each round, employees competed to see who could pick up the most marshmallows with chopsticks in a minute. The 3 employees to pick up the most marshmallows won a collection of healthy snacks! Congratulations were in order to TLM Application Consultant, Maria Hassman, Sales Solution Specialist, Harrison Graf, and ACA Consultant, Paul Brown for their impressive chopstick abilities.
If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, why not start the day off right? The second day of employee appreciation week was Toast Tuesday. The staff was treated to a toast bar with a variety of breads, spreads, and toppings to choose from! Studies have shown that starting the day with a nutritional breakfast may enhance memory, improve cognitive ability, increase mood and help increase attention span during the workweek.
In the Payroll industry, Wednesdays are known to be the busiest processing day of the week. For day three, the staff was offered opportunities to de-stress and relax as they managed their workload and support to APS clients.
Massages – At APS, most of our staff sits down for long periods of the day, which can cause neck and back tension over time. Employees who wanted to unwind were offered a 15 minute chair massage at any point during the day. Studies have shown that massages can release tension, making a person feel calmer, think clearer and be more productive.
Meditation/Quiet Room – The staff training room was transformed to a quiet space for employees to relax at their own leisure.
We concluded our week of events on Thursday since APS offers flexible schedules on Fridays for employees. At 2:00pm, the office shut down early as the staff made their way to Main Event! If you haven’t been to Main Event, the best way to describe it is comparing it to Chuck E Cheese, but the adult version where you can drink, eat, and play games.
Bowling was first up. Some members of the APS team like Solutions Consultant, Tabitha Asher, & VP of Sales and Marketing, Eric Monks, were bowling gods, while others (like myself) got a whopping 53 points in one game.
After two games of bowling, each employee had the choice to do one of the three following activities: high ropes course, billiards, or laser tag.
Half the staff played billiards and half decided to play laser tag.
If your company is looking for a fun, engaging experience, I highly suggest laser tag! After running around for 15 minutes, the staff was bonding over how exhilarating and exhausting the whole experience was. Special shout out to Solutions Consultant, Bryan Dennison, for racking up over 4,000 points for the red team.
Conclusion for the Week
Employee Appreciation Week was a hit! Many thanks and praises were given to the management team for organizing all the special things they had planned for the staff.
